Made For Your Money
KOHO

There’s something oddly satisfying about finances that just work.
Story:
Canadian fin-tech KOHO had big ambitions: to rival Canada’s biggest banks, challenging their clunky legacy systems with KOHO’s patented software that makes moving, organising and saving your money easy and intuitive.
They wanted a 40s commercial for social media that would highlight their five key offerings and showcase just how effortless it is to bank with KOHO.
Strategy:
There were two key things to keep in mind here: first, that KOHO wasn’t built on outdated systems like their competitors were. It was designed specifically for their middle-class, young Canadian demographic - it was, quite literally, made for their money. The second key point was that this had to perform on social media.
I pitched a concept built around the ‘oddly satisfying’ phenomenon. What if we imagined KOHO as a 3D space, where every USP was represented by a bespoke machine that seamlessly moved ‘money’ from A to B? This not only embodied the ‘made for your money’ slogan, but leant into the addictive ASMR brain-scratching content that performs so well on social media time and time again.
Leading a team of artists and animators, we created five unique machines that could be used as individual infinite loops, or strung together to create one cohesive journey.
Machine 4: Credit Building Tools
KOHO’s Credit Building program offers a safe way to build credit without the risks of traditional credit cards or lenders, by reporting payments to an official credit bureau on your behalf.
This contraption needed to convey upward motion to represent progression, while also being self contained to show the lack of input needed from the user.
Machine 1: Managing Your Money
KOHO’s native tools allow users to categorise their funds into different pots without needing multiple accounts. This can even be automated, so multiple income streams can be organised effortlessly.
This machine needed to show a transition from confusion to order.
Machine 5: Instant Virtual Card
Upon opening a KOHO account, users immediately have access to a virtual card without needing to wait on admin.
This machine needed to convey a sense of acceleration and speed, not just for the immediate access to the card, but the instantaneous movement of money when that card is used as well.
